The Best Dive Sites on the Reefs of Playa del Carmen

The reefs of Playa del Carmen are part of the Mesoamerican Reef System, one of the most important coral reef ecosystems in the world. Its warm tropical waters are home to a wide variety of marine life and offer excellent opportunities for reef diving in Playa del Carmen throughout the year.

Depending on sea conditions, visibility, and the experience level of our divers, we select different dive sites to provide you with the best possible experience.

Jardines

A shallow reef full of marine life, ideal for enjoying a relaxed dive and observing tropical fish, sea turtles, and numerous coral formations.

Tortugas

One of our divers’ favorite dive sites. It is common to encounter sea turtles feeding and resting on the reef, along with a wide variety of tropical fish.

Barracuda

A reef well known for its large barracudas, schools of fish, and good visibility. It is a great dive for enjoying the diversity of marine species found in the Caribbean.

Cueva de Pargo

A different type of dive where small caves and reef formations provide shelter for numerous marine species. During the dive, we may encounter groupers, moray eels, tropical fish, and other characteristic Caribbean species.

Mama Viña

One of the best-known dive sites in Playa del Carmen. Its reef formations are home to a great diversity of marine life, and it is possible to encounter sea turtles, rays, schools of fish, and other Caribbean species.

Pared Verde & Arcos

Two dive areas where impressive reef formations, colorful sponges, and abundant marine life stand out. These sites are particularly attractive for underwater photography enthusiasts.

What certification level do I need to dive the reefs of Playa del Carmen?

Any Open Water Diver or equivalent certified diver can participate in our reef dives.

If you are not certified, you can discover the reef through our Try Dive or Basic Diver program.

What marine life can I see?

It is common to encounter sea turtles, rays, barracudas, moray eels, tropical fish, lobsters, and a wide variety of reef marine life.

Can I use Nitrox?

Yes. Using Nitrox is an excellent option for extending your bottom time and enjoying your dives even more.

A Nitrox certification is required.

Are afternoon dives available?

Yes. We offer morning and afternoon departures, as well as night dives, depending on sea and weather conditions.

Duration and Schedule

We offer two reef diving trips each day.

Morning Dive Trip

In the morning, we usually do one deeper dive, between 16 and 30 meters, followed by a shallower dive with a maximum depth of approximately 14 meters.
